    See you at DNUG/Dortmund?

    Greetings, Geeks!

    Somehow I forgot to post that I will be speaking at next wee's DNUG, in Dortmund. Here are my topics, both to be presented on Tuesday, the 4th:

    - "Cloud computing" (keynote). The IBM "Bluehouse", Google and Microsoft Online computing services model is very different from the traditional IBM/Lotus packaged software, client/server one to which we have all become accustomed over the last 2 or 3 decades. Come hear about the mega-differences (business model, architecture, social and political impact), the micro-differences (application APIs, data handling and compliance), and even about the nano-differences, such as tech support, debugging, and error handling. How are the vendors' offerings different? How will "cloud" business partners and ISVs make money? Will you need to transform your software development processes? These and other questions will be asked and answered.

    - Achieving "Peaceful" Coexistence Between Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes
    While many organizations strive to standardize their messaging infrastructures on a single platform, many others do not. Whether through merger, acquisition or simple user preference, many organizations face a need to achieve peaceful coexistence in the messaging wars, perhaps for only a short time (while they transition from one to the other), but perhaps (if they can pull it off) for a very long time. The technical challenges involved in maintaining a well-performing dual messaging infrastructure are not trivial, but they can be met successfully with proper planning and the right technology. The big issues are all around directory synchronization, message transport, rich text, scheduling logic differences and data formats. Come to this session to learn how to overcome these technical challenges, how to keep  both Notes and Exchange up and running, and how to avoid mutually assured destruction!

    Hope to see you there.

    Seeing how you are going to the area of Germany where my mother is from you will need to be prepared for some of the local beers. First off the local beer in Dortmund is Dortmunder, a lager. I expect you will likely be flying into Dusseldorf so if there Schlosser Alt, old style beer, is the area beer to drink.

    These are some of my favorites. Also you can try Isenbeck if it is still served in the area. It is a Pilsner. And lastly the King of German Beers is Warsteiner.

    @1 - Thanks for the suggestions, Perry!Iusually ask for bock or even doppel-bock, but I'll be sure to check out some others.

    @2 - We'll have to do a side-by-side taste test!

    @3 - I can absolutely do that, but not until after the conference. Good suggestion.
